Doxepin is a tricyclic dibenzoxepin compound with several biological effects. It appears to work partly by reducing the reuptake of monoamine neurotransmitters at presynaptic terminals, and it also has anticholinergic effects and blocks histamine H1 and H2 receptor activity.
