Venlafaxine is a synthetic drug with antidepressant effects. It and its active metabolite mainly work by blocking the neuronal reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine, with weaker effects on dopamine reuptake, and it may also lessen hormone-related hot-flash-type vasomotor symptoms.
